Why upgrade from Office 365 to Microsoft 365?

By now, most people know what Office 365 is - although not everyone is yet realizing its full potential to improve productivity in the enterprise. But what exactly is Microsoft 365 Business and how does it differ from the Microsoft Office 365 license? Here we clarify the concepts and tell you more about the services that make more and more people today choose to upgrade to Microsoft 365.

Microsoft 365 and compliance

Both Office 365 and Microsoft 365 are a collection of applications, but Microsoft 365 is a larger suite that includes a license for Windows 10 and Office 365. Depending on which license you have, you get access to a number of business-oriented applications. In addition to what is included in Office, Microsoft 365 gives you more applications that primarily provide increased security and control. To put it more simply, Office 365 is a service for increased productivity and improved communication, while Microsoft 365 contains tools for your infrastructure - which includes Office 365.

Microsoft 365 Business includes Windows 10 Pro, Office 365 and a host of security, compliance and device management services. For compliance, the most burning topic is of course GDPR - the new data protection regulation that places high demands on the basic security of your IT environment.

Microsoft 365 Business is now referred to as the GDPR version of the Office 365 suite because it is more compliant with the GDPR. compliance requirements required by the new General Data Protection Regulation. This includes, among other things:

  • Encryption, and control of encryption on mobile devices, of email and data.
  • AIP (Azure Information Protection) offers features for governance, control, protection and easy classification of data as well as embedded labels and permissions. This allows you to monitor how shared data is processed in order to take appropriate action in case of unexpected events.
  • GDPR Policy Label - automatic recognition of personal data, which means that if a user creates documents containing GDPR-sensitive information, the document can be automatically classified as sensitive. The system can use artificial intelligence (AI) to recognize if you enter a personal or passport number, for example. You can also add your own variables to suit your business.
  • Azure Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) is a cloud-based security solution that identifies and helps you investigate advanced threats, compromised identities, and the actions of external and internal attackers against your organization.

Microsoft 365 Business and device management

Microsoft 365 Business also includes Intune, which enables centralized management of company devices. This provides greater control and increased security of devices that have access to company data. This means that at a central level it is possible to require that all devices are encrypted and are password protected, while personal data incidents can be avoided by blocking the devices in case of loss.

Another aspect of centralized control through device management is the control it provides by, for example, pushing out programs, settings and updates to all devices. A major productivity gain compared to having to do the installations separately on all devices. Read more about WeSafe's offer here.

Microsoft 365 and security

Microsoft 365 business offers comprehensive protection against everything from malicious files to code in emails. You also have the option of more secure forms of login, where you determine the level of security yourself through either strong passwords, multi-factor authentication or biometric login. Last but not least, Microsoft offers warnings in case of deviant behavior, such as large amounts of data being downloaded, repeated login attempts or other indications of intrusion.

An IT system is only as strong as its weakest link. Therefore, at WeSafe, we believe it is important to create a uniform level of security where the critical points are eliminated and the basic level is raised. You can read more about security and Microsoft on our site.

No knowledge, no value

That said, simply buying the license for Microsoft 365 is not enough. If you lack in-house expertise, it will be a real challenge to set up the services so that you get the most out of them. In addition, it will be more difficult to determine what level of security you need to be at without in-depth knowledge. The questions that arise around the services in Microsoft 365 business are more technical than for the Office suite, which means that a completely different type of technical expertise is required. This is why you need an IT partner to support you.

Microsoft 365 Business is designed for small and medium-sized businesses to help you be more productive, reduce security risks, and protect data and devices. It gives you and your colleagues the right tools for communication, collaboration and security without slowing down your business with complicated IT management and expensive equipment.
