Secure Score - your score for the right level of security
The threats in our digital environments are constantly evolving and changing, and in many companies it is a major challenge to find a balance between IT security and productivity. In short, it is often difficult to assess how you should be doing in terms of security in comparison with other organizations in your industry and size. Secure Score is Microsoft's centralized security tool and here we take a closer look at how it works and how it helps you meet these challenges.
Secure Score provides universal comparison
The Microsoft Secure Score has been created as a central point for security features, where the user or administrator can find and customize the different security options in their Microsoft environment depending on their permissions. Your environment is evaluated based on your licenses and current settings. The evaluation, which is done through a point scale, gives you information about how you are doing in terms of security in comparison with all other installations of the same type of environment. In this way, it becomes a universal expression of how your IT environment compares to others in terms of security.
Secure Score allows you to visualize deficiencies, suggest solutions and provide instructions on how to implement them in the best possible way. It becomes a practical tool to find out where to start and which measures should be implemented first. You will get a good idea of which measures can be implemented immediately and have no impact on users, and which should be planned as longer-term projects.
As a starting point for the level of ambition in the work with improved security, you have the score of your existing IT environment. Based on your Secure Score, you should set a target score - where you want to reach. In the Secure Score, you will find the average score for the organization you work in and, depending on your level of ambition and your schedule, you will receive suggestions for measures you can take to achieve your target score.
Highest score not always best
It is easy to think that the highest possible score is a healthy level of ambition. The problem with this is that security then becomes so strong that you as a user will hardly be able to log in to your environment. This type of security thus becomes more of an obstacle.
However, if your company handles sensitive personal data, there is every reason to work to be above the industry average. But if your processes are secure and your business does not handle sensitive personal data, high scores are not an end in themselves. The role of your IT partner will therefore be to help you make your IT environment as secure as possible, based on your individual conditions, needs and level of ambition.
Secure Score as a competitive tool
The Secure Score is based on you working fully in the Microsoft environment. There are of course other security services that evaluate your IT environment, but as they are not based on a uniform environment, but rather hybrids, it is difficult to develop a general concept for such services. The fact that Microsoft has such a huge customer base means that they can make comparisons that are universal. A smaller security company with significantly fewer customers cannot create the same weight in their comparisons of security standards. Another strong advantage of Secure Score is that it is constantly updated - every time new services or updates are added, Secure Score changes accordingly.
In this way, Microsoft Secure Score can act as a competitive advantage - as a security certification that demonstrates the company's IT security to customers, suppliers and authorities.
